On November 25, 2023, Biliran Province State University’s School of Graduate Studies (SGS) hosted a significant workshop aimed at developing localized and contextualized policies for disaster risk management and peace and order in schools. Held at the BiPSU Student Center in collaboration with the Department of Education (DepEd), the workshop brought together 63 educators and school leaders from across Biliran Province to address the need for effective, school-based disaster protocols and guidelines.
Participants worked together on conceptualizing, designing, and crafting policies and guidelines tailored to the unique challenges and risks faced by schools in the region. This involved discussions on creating clear procedures for emergency responses, student and staff safety protocols, and school-community collaboration during crises.
“Empowering our schools with robust, relevant policies is key to building a safer learning environment,” remarked a DepEd official. “These guidelines will help ensure that educators and students alike are prepared and protected in the face of potential disasters.”
The workshop is part of a broader initiative to enhance resilience and security within educational institutions, with DepEd and BiPSU committed to supporting continuous policy development and implementation for the safety and well-being of the school community.
